Snow has been falling across the city today, with the higher-up, northern areas of the city worst affected.

A resident in Shadwell, north Leeds, spotted a gritter which had driven into a ditch in Bay Horse Lane, close to his home.

The man, who wished to remain anonymous, said the gritter had been forced to swerve into the ditch due to an oncoming vehicle.

He added: "It's still snowing like mad here.

"They are waiting for the recovery - it looks like more than just a pull-out job."

Many roads in northern areas of the city have been declared unpassable, with some buses terminating early or cancelling services due to the conditions.

A Met Office weather warning for snow and ice is in place for Leeds until midnight.
