Chloe and Levi Simmonds have been sleeping in the lounge to enable the youngsters fostered by their mum Andrea to have a room of their own.

The pair’s aunt Carol Darbyshire was so impressed by their kindness that she nominated them for a competition run by home furnishings retailer Dunelm as part of a Facebook campaign to find people who had gone the extra mile for others.

The original prize was a £200 gift voucher to spend in the store, but Dunelm were so touched by the twins’ generosity that they decided to send a team of designers to transform the makeshift bedroom into a cosy den as a surprise.

Shocked mum Andrea had been struggling to afford new furniture for the twins and was delighted with the new-look space.

“I couldn’t believe it when I was told the twins would be receiving a new bedroom. They are so good with all the foster children who come through the door and couldn’t be more deserving of a treat. They share everything with the foster children - including their parents – so it’s wonderful that they now have a sanctuary of their very own to enjoy. I’m so grateful to Dunelm for giving them this reward and am sure they will love rediscovering the great indoors in their new room!” she said.

Her sister Carol added:

“I nominated my niece, nephew and sister as Andrea has wanted to make the children’s bedroom cosier and more homely for ages, but finances just haven’t allowed her to do this. I was amazed when I was told they would be getting a whole room makeover!”

The moment when the twins saw their revamped room for the first time was captured on camera and the video has since been shared on Youtube.

“We thought the story was just so lovely, and were struck by how selfless Chloe and Levi are. We wanted to reward their generosity so decided to carry out the makeover and give the children a bedroom they deserve,” said Dunelm head of marketing Maria Tamburrini.

“Their faces when they saw the room made it all worth it. We hope they enjoy their new room for many years to come!”
