Firefighters said today they expected to have to demolish a waste management centre in Leeds after it caught fire during the early hours on Monday.
Smoke was still rising from H W Martins Waste Management building on Parkside Lane, Beeston this morning, more than 24 hours after it started.
At its height, more than 12 fire engines fought the blaze at the 100m by 80m warehouse, which is a sorting centre for household waste.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Fire crews from Hunslet and several other stations remained at the scene overnight and were still there at 8am.
One firefighter said: “At this stage, sections of the building are compromised and I think they are going to take a view on it in the cold light of day.”
