Walk over fire - and Lego - for children's charity in Leeds

Candlelighters, Yorkshire’s children’s cancer charity, is challenging people to face their fears and take the walk of a lifetime on Sunday, November 27.

In the grounds of The Peacock pub, situated on Elland Road, brave trailblazers will be walking on fire and pieces of popular toy Lego to raise vital funds for Candlelighters, which will help the charity to develop their support for families.

Leading the Lego walkers will be Dr Bob Philips.

He is leaving his stethoscope at home, removing his shoes and socks and will be strutting his stuff along the painful path of upturned bricks.

The walk will have special significance for Bob and many others participating.

He said, “I’ve seen how unpleasant the treatments our patients and families go through are.

“The bravest thing I can do to match that would be to walk naked over Lego.

“However, taste and decency stop me doing that, so barefooted will have to do.

“Please - make it worth my while and let Candlelighters support children, young people and their families with cancer in Yorkshire and send us your cash.”

The firewalk costs £15 to enter.

It is open to anyone aged 14 and over.

Full training will be given to prepare participants to tackle the hot coals.

The Lego walk is £5 to enter and offers a challenge for the whole family.
