Poetry for the People, on the opening day, promises to be funny and entertaining, with Jamaican poet and author Linton Kwesi Johnson among the names involved.

September 24 is Beautiful Minds day and features a panel of discussions and pop-up events focusing on wellbeing, whilst September 30 is entitled We Need to Talk About Music.

The programme includes Grace Maxwell and Edwyn Collins in conversation and is being run in partnership with music-based literature festival Louder Than Words.

Kate Watson, Principal Consultant from Beam, said: “Beam are delighted to be bringing a fresh approach to Wakefield Lit Fest for 2017, working with A Firm of Poets enables us to build on the well-established following for live events in Wakefield and to offer an exciting programme of events that creates a new energy that captures the imagination of our audiences.”
