Wakefield: Man rescued after blaze at his home

A man was taken to hospital after being rescued from a fire in Wakefield.

Firefighters used a ladder to rescue the man, aged around 50, from the first-floor bedroom window of a house on Rufford Street, New Scarborough.

He suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to Pinderfields Hospital by ambulance.

Firefighters and investigators from Wakefield and Ossett were called to the blaze just after 11.50pm on Boxing Day.

The man was reportedly trapped in the fire and was seen hanging out of the upstairs window.
