Bashir Ahmed, prosecuting, said Nicholson shouted 'Gotcha' and the victim recognised his voice.

Two other men were with Nicholson but had their faces covered.

One was holding a glass bottle by the neck and the victim feared it would be used as a weapon.

The victim fell to the ground and was repeatedly kicked and punched before the men took his wallet and mobile phone.

The victim managed to get to his feet and flagged down a police community support officer who was driving past.

More officers were called to the scene and Nicholson was arrested after a chase.

The two other attackers managed to escape.

The victim's wallet and mobile phone were recovered from the alleyway. He needed stitches to a cut lip as a result of the attack.

Nicholson, 26, of Bright Street, Stanningley, pleaded guilty to robbery.
