A FOAL born at a Leeds horse and donkey sanctuary just a few hours before the new Royal princess has picked her own name - Duchess.
Staff arrived at the Hope Pastures sanctuary in Adel at 7am on Saturday to discover rescued pregnant mare Buttercup had given birth.
The foal was either born on Friday night or in the early hours on Saturday, the same day as the Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to baby Charlotte Elizabeth Diana. Hope Pastures yard manager Sophie Kendrick said 30 people responded to an online appeal to name the new foal. Around 30 names were written on pieces of paper and placed on the stable floor. The foal picked up Duchess.
