VIDEO: Police investigate shooting incident in Leeds

A man escaped last night when the parked car he was sat in was shot at in a drive-by incident police say was 'targeted'.

Armed officers were deployed to the scene after getting reports of a number of shots having been fired at a car in the vicinity of Cross Roundhay Avenue, off Harehills Lane, Harehills at around 10.45pm.

A few hours later a silver Vauxhall Vectra, thought to have been used by the suspects, was later found burned out in Servia Gardens, Little London, shortly before 2am this morning.

A forensic examination of the victim’s car confirmed that the damage was caused by a firearm discharge.

This afternoon the scene was still cordoned off by police as investigations continue and local policing teams have been in the area to provide reassurance to worried residents.

Det Chief Insp Jaz Khan said: “We believe this has been a targeted attack on the victim and we are carrying out extensive enquiries to establish the circumstances surrounding this incident.

“A number of shots have been fired at the victim’s car while he was sitting in it and he could easily have been seriously injured.

“We will always treat the criminal use of firearms in our communities very seriously and will continue to do everything we can to identify and arrest the people involved in this incident.
