A callous thief has been caught on CCTV swiping two ornamental gorillas from a West Yorkshire garden.

Ian Hartley and Helen Storer set up the cameras to protect their garden at their home on Shelley Avenue, Heckmondwike.

The two gorillas, which the owners say have significant sentimental value, were taken at around 1.30am on Tuesday, January 19.

Now retired Helen, 62, has pleaded for anyone with information to come forward so she can get her beloved gorillas back.

She said: “I’ve had them going on 30 years, I had them made specially out of concrete.

“I’m absolutely devastated at what has happened and I just want them back because they mean such a lot to me.

“They’ve not touched anything else.”

The suspect is thought to be white, in his early 20s or younger, wearing a distinctive jacket.

Anyone with any information should contact West Yorkshire Police via 101.
