A boy scout enjoyed the ‘best day ever’ while earning his aviation scouting badge.
Alex Conlon, 11, explored the cockpit of a Jet2.com plane and met a pilot at Leeds-Bradford Airport.
Alex, who attends the South Leeds and Morley district pack, was invited by Jet2.com for a behind the scenes tour of it’s operation.
Alex, from Middleton, said: “It was brilliant, the best day ever. I really liked all of it. I enjoyed going into the cockpit to see how the plane works and when I am older I want to be a pilot too, so it was very useful
Teacher and scout leader Harry Shires, who arranged the special day and went along, said: “The tour included a visit to the hangar where Alex could see aircraft undergoing maintenance; time in the airline’s check in hall to see how passengers are checked in; a visit to the operations control centre; a trip to baggage handling plus a tour of the three different types of aircraft Jet2.com flies in and out of Leeds Bradford.
“He also got to look around the control tower where Alex could see how aircraft are safely guided back to the ground.
“From beginning to end this was an opportunity of a lifetime for Alex and I’d like to thank Jet2.com for making it such a memorable day.”
Alex’s visit ended with him being presented with his Stage 2 Air Aviation badge by one of Jet2.com’s captains.
Paul Swinfen, general manager of operations at Jet2.com, added: “We’re thrilled Alex enjoyed his visit with us and it was fantastic to be able to present him with his Air Aviation Badge. He was very eager to learn all about the operations of an airline and I hope the visit inspired him to pursue a career in the airline industry.”
