Video: Hopeful Leeds dancers attend Moulin Rouge trials

Have your say

Scores of showbiz hopefuls have been proving they can-can high-kick with the best of them, at auditions for Paris’s famous Moulin Rouge, held right here in Leeds.

Talent scouts say the trials, which took place at the Yorkshire Dance Studios on St Peter’s Square, went ‘very well’ and performers displayed ‘good energy’.

Some 76 classically trained dancers attended, although many had difficulty doing some of the trickier routines, such as kicks and cartwheels.

Further auditions are being held in Australia, in July.

The recruitment drive is for the spectacular extravaganza ‘Feerie’, which features a troupe of 70 and a 60-tonne water aquarium.

Training happens twice a year, in April and October, and lasts four weeks.
