The school was hosting a three-day Louis Smith Gymnastics Academy. His prowess on a pommel horse won him the bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and a silver four years later in the 2012 London games. He was also an integral member of the Great Britain team that took the bronze in the men’s artistic team all-around event in those Olympics.

His gymnastics training is one of four sporting academies being run from Ashville College over the summer. Next week the independent school is hosting the Andrew Flintoff Cricket Academy – with a special visit from former England cricketer Glen Chapple.
