Kathy Trout from West Yorkshire Dog Rescue, said: “He’s an extremely social puppy. He’s a charming little dog who is very funny and playful and he is amazingly cute.

“He’s quite able to understand and learn about an environment as long as things don’t move. He needs a stable, non-cluttered environment, so not somewhere where someone might put a bag down for him to walk into.

“Because of his breed he needs a lot of exercise and he will also need to live with another dog to follow around and to help guide him, because he is essentially living in a black world.

“But if you saw him you wouldn’t believe he is blind and deaf.

“However you can train a blind dog by touch and smell.

“For example if you put a different scent at the entry to each door you can train him so he knows what room he is in.

“So if you put an orange scent down at the foot of one doorway he can work out he is in the orange room.”

Kathy said when Henry was taken for a checkup at the vets, who uncovered the puppy’s rare condition.

She said: “The iris in his eyes are deformed which has caused his blindness. The vet said he had never seen anything like this before.
