Video footage of violent street brawl sought by police in Leeds

Five people have been arrested following the brawl at Savile Park in Chapeltown on Sunday.

Officers were called to Savile Park at around 8.18pm on Sunday, June 5 to reports of men and women fighting.

A 30-year-old man had been seriously assaulted on nearby Back Savile Road and was suffering from head injuries. He was taken to hospital for treatment.

His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Three male youths, a man and a woman were arrested by police in connection with the incident on suspicion of violent disorder.

Officers are now appealing for any witnesses and anyone with video footage of the fight to contact them.

Detective inspector James Entwistle, of Leeds District CID, said: “Police in Leeds received reports of a fight between a large number of people in Savile Park, Chapeltown.

“Officers attended within minutes and found one person with head injuries and several others with minor injuries.

“Police quickly regained order and five people have been arrested.”

He added: “We believe this was an isolated incident but would appeal for the public’s help and would like to appeal to anyone who has information in relation to the incident to ring Leeds CID.

“We’re particularly interested to hear from anyone who may have filmed what happened on their mobile phones.”

Det insp Entwistle added that West Yorkshire Police has increased patrols in the area to provide reassurance to the community.

Enquiries are ongoing into the incident.
