Police and firefighters were called to commercial premises near the former Shaftesbury cinema on Harehills Lane, Harehills, at about 12.30pm yesterday. (August 25)

The emergency services were called to the scene following a report of smoke and flames coming from the roof of the property in east Leeds.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman told the Yorkshire Evening Post: “On attending police discovered what appears to be the set up for a cannabis farm inside the property.”

It is believed that no-one was inside the premises at the time of the blaze.

The shops were sealed off yesterday and enquiries by the emergency services remained ongoing last night.
