Video: Cars prepare to depart from John O'Groats whilst taking part in the Rallye Monte Carlo Historique
The family of a pioneering rally driver retraced his tyre tracks yesterday (Wed) as they set off on the Monte Carlo Classic Rally.
Michael Grimond, 44, is following in the tracks of his grandfather Victor Bruce, who won the world famous rally 90 years ago. He was joined by his mother Wendy, 67, dad Richard and brother David as they set off from John o’Groats, Highlands. In 1926, Victor left a snow-covered John o’Groats in a British-made AC car that cost £450 and travelled 2,500km to become the first British driver to win the rally. Michael, from Guildford, Surrey, is using the same 1927 car that his grandfather broke world records in at Montlhery in France shortly after the 1926 rally.
