Vaisakhi: Preparations for eye-catching Leeds celebration

Hundreds of Sikhs are expected to take to the streets on Saturday (April 9) in a traditional procession through Leeds in celebration of Vaisakhi.

Vaisakhi is one of the holiest days in the Sikh calendar and marks the birth of the Khalsa.

Motorists are being warned there may be delays as the parade weaves its way around the city.

The annual festival will start at the Chapeltown Gudwara on Chapeltown Road from 10am.

The parade will then make its way to the Headrow and Eastgate for around 12.40pm before continuing the celebrations at Millennium Square.

The celebration, which is organised by the Gudwara, features the traditional sword march, martial arts displays and hymn singing.

People from all backgrounds were invited to take part in the procession and join the celebrations in Millennium Square.
