UPDATED: Olympic boxing star Nicola Adams’s car found as police hunt burglars

The grey Hyundai Veloster Turbo was found parked in Sandringham Way, Alwoodley, on Saturday at around 8.20am after a member of the public reported it to police.

Adams and other family members were at home in Halton at the time of the break-in on Wednesday at around 8am but were unaware of the burglary.

Two cars, training kit and personal possessions including an iPhone, Team GB 2012 holdall and Louis Vuitton overnight bag were stolen.

Adams had been due to compete in this weekend’s England National Championships but was forced to withdraw following the incident.

Detective Constable Will Tsang, of Leeds District Neighbourhood Crime Team, said: “Unfortunately the boxing equipment and other items that were in the boot when it was stolen were no longer in the vehicle.

“We would like to hear from anyone who saw the vehicle being left in Sandringham Way any time after it was stolen on Wednesday morning.

“The silver Ford Focus TDCi, registration YH09DLU, that was also stolen in the burglary remains outstanding at this time. We would still like to hear from anyone who has seen that vehicle or who knows its current whereabouts.

“Our investigation is ongoing and we would still like to hear from anyone who has been offered for sale any of the very distinctive items that were taken.”

Three pairs of boxing boots were stolen – including the pair she wore in the Commonwealth Games – and three pairs of boxing gloves.

They included a Winning brand black 14oz lace up pair, a Winning blue 12oz velcro strap pair with her name on them, and some red Adidas competition gloves.

A white Winning headguard and the shorts and vest she was due to compete in were also stolen and have her name on them.

An Omega Seamaster watch with diamonds around the face was also stolen, which was a gift to Nicola to mark her victory at the 2012 Olympics.

In an appeal to the public on Friday, Adams said: “These items would mean very minimal to anyone else but are of sentimental value to me.

“I would be very grateful for the return of my car and stolen belongings, some of which were gifts to me following my much-recognised wins for England and Great Britain as well as personalised items meant for my next national match.”
