Update: Man arrested after armed raid on Leeds shop

A man has been arrested by detectives investigating an armed robbery in Leeds.

Masked raiders struck fear into shop staff and customers as they held them at knifepoint on Sunday night.

The trio stole a substantial amount of cigarettes and money from the One Stop in East End Park.

Police today said a 35-year-old man from Leeds had been arrested on suspicion of robbery.

A spokesman said the man was currently being held in custody and enquiries into the raid were continuing.

Owner Carlos Patel said: “Everyone’s been talking about it, and all the staff are on edge at the moment. Two or three won’t come in because it might happen again.”

He said the woman working behind the till had shown great bravery, but was traumatised.

The robbery took place struck at the shop in East Park View between 6.05pm and 6.20pm.

The men were masked but were believed to be white.

Detective Constable Chris Lord, of Leeds District CID, said: “This was a really frightening experience for the staff and customers that were involved and we are carrying out extensive enquiries.

“The men were using a stolen green Ford Focus, registration PL06 XAP, which was found abandoned a short time later in Ellerby Lane.

“We would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident, saw the men leaving the car or who has any information about that vehicle in the time leading up to the robbery.”
