A bar and its sister brewing company have been recognised at a national industry awards ceremony.

North Bar and North Brewing Company were named “Best Brewing Pub Company” in this year’s Publican Awards.

It comes as North Bar, known as “the first craft beer bar in Britain” celebrates its 20th anniversary. North Brewing Company was established in 2015 after North Bar founders and directors. John Gyngell and Christian Townsley. opened six other venues in the city.

In its first year of production, North Brewing Company received international recognition from the Rate Beer Best awards and the core range is now being exported to Sweden and Ireland, with further routes in discussions.

Mr Townsley said: “We’re absolutely delighted by what we’ve achieved so far and we feel we’ve done the North Bar name proud. We’ve worked spectacularly hard to make sure that the brewery lived up to the reputation for fantastic quality and service that we’ve built over the last 20 years,”

Earlier this year the company unveiled plans to double brewing capacity at the north Leeds site over the coming months.
