East Leeds residents have been puzzled by the sound of a 'creepy' siren that could be heard this afternoon.

Described as 'creepy' and similar to a World War Two-era air raid alarm, it could be heard in Seacroft and Whinmoor on Wednesday afternoon.

Yet there's a simple explanation - it's coming from the Unilever factory site on Coal Road.

The company confirmed that they would be testing their emergency alarm system between 12-3pm.

Leeds Industrial Museum in Armley will be brimming with excitement on August 1 when, for the first time ever, the historic site plays host to none other than the Yorkshire Open Hat Throwing Championships, the brainchild of Yorkshire-based poet Glyn Watkins. picture Tony Johnson.
