Two men in court over Leeds murder

Two men have been charged with murder and robbery following the death of a man in Leeds.

Steven Varley, 45, of Coldcotes Crescent, Gipton, and Michael Gath, 30, of Barton Terrace, Beeston, appeared before Leeds Magistrates today charged with the murder and robbery of 48-year-old Andrew Gordon.

They were arrested after Mr Gordon’s body was found in his flat on Briarsdale Heights, Gipton, at about 11am on February 11 by paramedics.

Initial innvestigations showed he had suffered trauma injuries and a post mortem confirmed he had not died from natural causes.

Following today’s court appearance the two men have been remanded in custody to appear before Leeds Crown Court on Tuesday February 17.

Senior investigating officer, Det Chief Insp Elizabeth Belton, said afterwards: “We are continuing to appeal for witnesses to this offence and I would ask anyone who has information to contact the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team on 101.

“Information can also be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111,” she added.
