Two theatrical landmarks will be celebrated when West Yorkshire Playhouse's latest production hits the stage.
Next year will be the Leeds theatre's 21st birthday year, and 2011 is also acclaimed playwright Terence Rattigan's centenary year.
To launch both celebrations, The Deep Blue Sea, one of Rattigan's finest, will come to the Playhouse from February 18 to March 12.
Award winning actress Maxine Peake, who will take on the lead role of Hester, said: "It is a fantastic piece of playwriting and a fabulous part.
"Playing Hester is a role I didn't want to turn down.
"I am very much looking forward to working at West Yorkshire Playhouse again and am excited about returning to the stage after a break of three years."
Ian Brown, artistic director of West Yorkshire Playhouse, added: "I can't think of a more exciting actor to play Hester in Rattigan's powerful play than Maxine Peake.
"Her performance in it will get our 21st birthday year off to a flying start."
Tickets for The Deep Blue Sea can be reserved via the box office on 0113 2137700 or by visiting www.wyp.org.uk.
