X FACTOR contestant Jack Walton from Castleford was set to continue his quest for pop stardom on the ITV talent show tonight.
The 18-year-old former pub and club singer won the judges and the public over with his rendition of Paula Abdul’s ‘Straight Up’ on last week’s show.
He will perform a hit from the movie’s in the third of the live shows tonight before an anxious wait until tomorrow night when he will discover if he is staying in or going home.
Jack said: “It’s just an unbelievable experience and I don’t want it to end.
“The support is amazing. I’ve had messages telling me about the massive support I’ve got back home. I can’t thank everyone enough.”
His parents Robin, 59, and Rachel, 46, have been travelling to London each week to watch their son perform.
Mrs Walton said: “It’s costing me a fortune, bit it’s worth it.”
She added: “It’s crunch time every Sunday now. We are going to be sat there thinking is he going to be in the bottom two?’ It is pretty nerve wracking.”
Stallholders at Castleford Market are wearing specially printed T-shirts emblazoned with Jacks photograph.
Castleford Stitch and Print made their T-shirts as well as ‘Vote Jack’ posters.
Rachel Cooper, from the business, said: “Everybody is talking about Jack and there’s a real buzz around the town.
“Everybody just wants him to do well and go as far as he can. He is doing Castleford proud and we’re all behind him.”
