ASDA workers were front of the pack in the race to sign up for this years Leeds 10K charity run.

Organisers of this year’s Yorkshire Evening Post-backed Leeds 10K, which will take place on Sunday July 12, are hoping to equal or better last year’s event, which saw 10,000 people sign up to run for good causes.

More than 250 Asda staff snapped up places at a special sign-up event held at Asda’s head office in Great Wilson Street, Leeds.

The Leeds 10K is part of the Run For All series of events, which are supported by the Asda Foundation.

Other fundraising runs in series are the York, Hull, City Pennine Lancashire and City of Lincoln 10Ks.

The Run For All 10K Series is part of the lasting legacy of Jane Tomlinson CBE, the mum-of-three from Leeds who raised almost £2m by completing a series of incredible physical challenges despite suffering from incurable cancer.

Her family are now continuing her legacy through the Run For All events series.

Lynne Preston, event manager at Run For All, said: “The Leeds 10K remains our flagship event and people return time after time to take part in what always was, and will be, Jane’s Run. For a lot of the partner charities who benefit, it is one of their main fundraising events we’re looking forward to another incredible year.”

“Every year #TeamAsda turns the streets of into a sea of Asda green. We’re really looking forward to seeing them all back again in 2015.”

This year’s Leeds 10K partner charities are the Jane Tomlinson Appeal, Breast Cancer Haven, Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice, Macmillan Cancer Support, Martin House Children’s Hospice, Yorkshire Cancer Research, Leeds Mencap, Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice, St George’s Crypt, and Leeds Children’s Hospital Appeal.

Anyone can go on-line and register for the Leeds 10K, which has raised more than £2.5m since its launch in 2007. Entries are also open for the other 10K runs in the Run For All series. The City of Lincoln 10K is first to get underway on Sunday March 22, the Hull 10K takes place on Sunday June 14, the Pennine Lancashire 10K takes place in Burnley on Sunday June 28, and the York 10K hits the streets on Sunday August 2.
