Tributes to '˜truly great' Leeds football club stalwart

Moving tributes have been paid to a Leeds football club stalwart, who died aged 72.

Trevor Hackett was one of Robin Hood Athletic Football Club’s greatest servants and he held a number of roles at the club.

Mr Hackett started as a player and became the club’s treasurer and president.

He died on Monday night.

Robin Hood AFC chairman Martin Wilton said: “Trevor was Robin Hood through and through and loved the club.

“The world has lost a truly great man who can never be replaced.”

Mr Hackett was heavily involved in the day-to-day running of the club and helped secure funding to build its stadium, changing rooms and tea room.

Mr Wilton said: “Trevor was always serving in the tea room and doing odd jobs around the ground.

“He took the club from having just the pitch and being based at the pub to having a stadium and a stand.

“He played a pivotal part through the whole process.”

Robin Hood AFC’s first team plays in the West Yorkshire Premier Division.

A minute’s silence will be held before their game against Oxenhope Recreation on Saturday.
