A woman had to be cut from her crashed car after apparently falling ill at the wheel.

Police were called after a witness reported the Renault Clio being driven erratically on Stanningley Road, Armley, at about 9.45pm on Wednesday night.

The car swerved and hit the central reservation before flipping onto its side and colliding with a pedestrian barrier near KFC.

Firefighters freed the woman, who was the only person in the car. She was taken to hospital for checks but was not seriously injured.

It is thought she lost control after suffering an episode relating to an existing medical condition.
