The Yorkshire Evening Post has launched a campaign calling on Transport Secretary to really get to grips with this problem - and commit to action.

Grant Shapps is in Leeds this week, and we're asking him to look again at a mass-transit-system for Leeds, take action to improve the reliability, value and operation of Leeds' buses and trains, and make the city more attractive for cyclists and walkers.

The campaign provoked a strong response from the people of Leeds - and beyond.

Here's what you had to say:

Olympic gold medallist and Greater Manchester’s Cycling and Walking Commissioner welcomed Leeds calling for more action. His city is considered to be well-ahead of Leeds when it comes to walking and cycling.

"The active travel market is getting pretty crowded," he said on Twitter. "The kind of competition we want."

Peter Maurice said: "Leeds has to decide firstly what it wants from public transport. What kind of public transport it wants. Buses against cars in the city is creating chaos on a daily basis. Until transport sorted Leeds can never be classed as a major city. Gone on too long."

Gary Cummins said: "Leeds needs an accessible tram system, not an expensive subway or inaccessible silly sci-fi monorail. A surface level tram has proven successful and popular elsewhere."

Rob Patrick added: "Put 10 per cent fee on city centre parking & introduce a congestion charge, put the money raised towards public transport and active travel infrastructure. Or better still follow the example of York and ban cars."

Danny Firbank said: "You can’t just force people onto slow, unreliable buses plus the trains are a farce too.Leeds has been left behind by much smaller cities in terms of mass transit. The lack of a proper network in Leeds is a joke."

On Facebook, Ruth Lodge said: "More secure bicycle parking around town."

While Luca Frank Kuryliw said: "An underground system using the old train tunnels. No more room on surface."
