Person dies after being struck by a train near Weeton station on Leeds to Harrogate line

A person has died after being hit by a train in Weeton, just north of Leeds.

British Transport Police (BTP) were called just after 3pm to an area of railway in Weeton following a report of a casualty on the tracks.

The person was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious, a BTP spokesman said.

The stretch of the Leeds to Harrogate line was closed entirely for a few hours, but reopened again shortly after 5pm, but services may still be subject to delays or cancellations.
