Pensioner dies in Wakefield pub smash

A seventy-one year-old man has died after a car smashed into a pub in Wakefield yesterday. (Thursday)

The incident happened just before 4pm in Bar Lane, Midgley.

A Nissan Primastar Van was travelling on Bar Lane away from Bretton roundabout towards Midgley when it hit the corner of the Black Bull public house.

The front seat passenger, a 71 year old man from Wakefield, sustained injuries which proved fatal at the scene.

The driver, a 76 year old man from Rotherham, was taken to Pinderfields Hospital with minor injuries.

Enquiries are continuing and anyone with any information is asked to contact the Major Collision Enquiry Team on 01924 293047.
