A man was seriously injured in a hit-and-run possibly involving a 4x4 in Leeds.

The 41-year-old was left lying in the road on Compton Road in Harehills after the collision yesterday.

Police said he was hit by a vehicle – possibly about the size of a Landrover Freelander – as he crossed the road at the junction with Hudson Road, at 5pm.

The vehicle then drove off.

The victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Anyone with information should call PC John Ford, of the eastern area roads policing unit, on 101.

SLOW PROGRESS: Traffic queuing on Wellington Street, one of the main routes in the centre of Leeds.

Is Leeds stuck in the slow lane or a city that is definitely going places?
