Pedestrian seriously injured after crash on A61 Wakefield Road Belle Isle near M621

A woman is seriously injured in hospital after being hit by a car in south Leeds.

It happened on the A61 Wakefield Road, Belle Isle, near to where it meets the A639, between Pontefract Road and Savannah Way.

West Yorkshire Police were contacted by Yorkshire Ambulance Service shortly after 10am.

A Yorkshire Air Ambulance was called to the scene.

The driver stopped at the scene and was spoken to by police.

A road closure and diversion is in place pending updates from hospital on the injured woman’s condition.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "At 10:05am today (10/7) police were contacted by the ambulance service who were attending a serious road traffic collision on the A61 Wakefield Road, Belle Isle, near to where it meets the A639.

"A woman pedestrian had been involved in a collision with a car and received serious injuries.

"She was taken to hospital by ambulance for emergency treatment.

"The driver stopped at the scene and has been spoken to by officers."
