Officers tweeted to say how "quick-thinking" members of the public stepped in to help and managed to bring the BMW to a stop before causing any further damage.

No one was seriously injured in the collision itself, while the BMW driver was taken to hospital for treatment.

West Yorkshire Police's Roads Policing Unit wrote on Twitter: Driver of the BMW suffered a medical episode at the wheel. With the quick thinking members of the public the vehicle was stopped from moving.

"Yorkshire Ambulance Service were on scene quickly and the driver taken to hospital for further treatment."
