Leeds: Van driver arrested over death of pedestrian bailed

A man who was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a pedestrian was knocked down and killed in Leeds has been released on police bail.

A 61-year-old man suffered fatal injuries when he was hit by a van near the Shell garage on Kirkstall Road, in Kirkstall, on Saturday morning.

He was confirmed dead after being taken to Leeds General Infirmary.

The 30-year-old van driver was arrested at the scene as police closed the road to carry out investigations.

He remained in custody overnight but has now been released on bail pending further enquiries.

West Yorkshire Police’s major collision enquiry team has appealed for witnesses to the crash to contact them.
