Leeds rail services delayed after man hit by train in Harrogate

Rail services between Leeds and York were delayed this afternoon after a man was hit by a train.

British Transport Police were called after the incident near Crimple Viaduct in Harrogate at 1.36pm.

A spokeswoman said: “BTP officers attended, alongside colleagues from the West Yorkshire Police and the Yorkshire Ambulance Service.

“A man was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers are currently working to identify the man and inform his family.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

Northern Rail tweeted: Delays of up to 60 minutes between York and Leeds via Harrogate until at least 15:00.”

Buses were replacing trains between Leeds and Horsforth.
