Northern Powergrid engineers are at the scene and an alert to residents said: "The power cut affecting your property has been caused by an unexpected problem with the cables or equipment that serve your area."

Power is expected to be restored in LS7 and LS9 by 10.30am.

At 9.30am, Northern Powergrid had to turn off power to 40 homes and businesses in LS8 as they carried out essential repairs.

Power is not likely to be restored to these properties until 2.30pm.
