Just a wooden fence stops this car plunging on to motorway below

THIS dramatic picture shows the dangerous repercussions of a suspected drunk driver - after his car ended up precariously perched on top of a metal barricade with only a wooden fence breaking his fall onto a motorway below.

The driver left the road and managed to mount the curb, careering along the barricade rail before coming to a stop just in time.

Cops tweeted the picture after they arrested the 33-year-old driver on suspicion of drink driving - and accompanied their post with the hashtag #couldhavebeenmuchworse.

The crash happened shortly before 6am this morning, at junction 44 of the A1M/A64 near Bramham, north of Leeds.

North Yorkshire Police posted the image on Twitter with the caption: “Here’s where the vehicle ended up. Other side of the wooden fence is a steep drop onto motorway #couldhavebeenmuchworse.”
