Hundreds of vehicles 'trapped' on M62 to be turned round after four hour motorway closure

The M62 is starting to reopen - after a four hour closure in both directions on the carriageway left some vehicles 'trapped'.

Police closed the carriageway in both directions at J35 to J36 near Goole this morning due to an incident.

Many drivers were left stranded on the carriageway and told to remain with their vehicles, Highways England reported.

In a tweet, they said: "If you are 'trapped' westbound between #J36 #Goole and the incident at Dobella Lane, please remain with your vehicle.

"We have commenced in turning vehicles at the back to the queue. This takes time and your patience is appreciated."

In a later tweet, Highways England confirmed their barrier team have removed part of the central reservation barrier and are now releasing traffic forwards.

According to Highways England, the process is likely to take a 'number of hours'.

Diversions are in place via the A614.
