Fire breaks out above shop in north Leeds closing Meanwood Road

Meanwood Road in north Leeds is closed as emergency services respond to a building fire.

Police and firefighters are at the scene of the fire which broke out above a shop shortly after 2pm.

Three fire engines are attending from Leeds, Moortown and Cookridge as well as the aerial ladder from Bradford.

Meanwood Road remains closed near the junction with Monk Bridge Road and police are managing traffic.

Traffic delays have built up in the area and First Bus services 51 and 52 are diverting via Stainbeck Road and Stainbeck Avenue.

A spokeswoman for West Yorkshire Fire has confirmed that no one was injured in the blaze.

The spokeswoman said: "Fire crews are responding to a fire at a building on Meanwood Road in Leeds. We were called at 14.11pm.

"There are three appliances – one from Leeds, Moortown and Cookridge – in attendance, as well as the aerial ladder from Bradford.

"The police are also on site managing traffic. Meanwood Road is currently closed."
