Driver suffers serious leg injury in crash with lamppost on main Leeds road

A driver had to be rescued from his car after it hit a lamppost on one of the main roads out of Leeds.

The 29-year-old man was in a Ford Fiesta travelling on Easterly Road towards the ring road in Gipton when his car came off the road and hit a lampost near the junction with Wetherby Road at about 3.30pm on Monday.

Police and firefighters were called and the road was partially closed while the man was removed from the car.

He was taken to Leeds General Infirmary with a serious but not life-threatening leg injury.
