Driver caught at 122mph on the M62 as police crack down on speeding motorists

Two drivers were caught speeding at more than 100mph at the weekend - with one clocked at an astonishing 122mph.

Martin Willis - a motorway policing officer known as 'Motorway Martin' on social media - questioned whether it was the 'hot weather' making people 'put their foot down'.

A shocking picture posted on his social media account shows the reading at 122mph - more than 50mph over the speed limit of the motorway section.

Many road users took to social media to show their disgust.

One said: "Loads of speeding drivers out today.

"Maybe it is the weather."

West Yorkshire Roads Policing Unit also said they caught a driver speeding at over 100mph in Huddersfield on the M62.

The driver was undertaking and following too close to other vehicles, police said.

The car was seized by police and the driver was reported for the offences.
