Firefighters had to rescue a man who was left trapped in his car on the edge of a ditch following a crash in Leeds.

The man was driving a Peugeot 308 that was involved in a collision with a Honda Stream at the junction of Wetherby Road and Red Hall Lane, near Whinmoor, at about 2.40pm on Wednesday.

His vehicle was left wedged next to trees and on the edge of a ditch.

Crews from Moortown and Stanks attended and had to cut into the trees to gain access to the car.

Crew manager Gino Webster, from Moortown, said: “The vehicle was close to sliding into the ditch, so the firefighters did well to extricate the casualty without causing him further harm.”

The man was taken to hospital by ambulance.

No-one in the other vehicle was seriously injured.
