Boy, nine, seriously injured after being hit by car in Leeds

A child was taken to hospital with suspected serious head and chest injuries after he was hit by a car today.

West Yorkshire Police officers were called to Conway Street in Harehills after the boy, aged nine, was involved in a collision with a white Mitsubishi car near the junction with Harehills Road at around 10.25am.

The boy was alone at the time of the incident and spoke no English and it took some time to identify him.

The road was cordoned off while investigations were carried out.

Buses, including the 49, 50 and 50A services, were diverted around the scene as the road remained closed in both directions for more than four hours after the incident.

The driver of the Mitsubishi was spoken to at the scene and police were speaking to witnesses and checking CCTV for evidence.

The boy was described as being in a serious but stable condition.
