Heavy traffic on M1 following multiple vehicle crash near Leeds

The M1 near Leeds is blocked this morning (Friday) due to a crash on the carriageway.

Highways England has said there has been a multiple vehicle crash on the southbound carriageway.

The collision occurred near to junction 41 for Carr Gate and Ossett, near Wakefield.

The carriageway has been blocked and emergency services are on route.

Highways England said lane four was closed for emergency services.

Motorway camera images show the southbound side snarled up, with long queues in all lanes.

The incident is affecting anyone travelling towards Leeds from Wakefield and South Yorkshire, and motorists have been advised to avoid the area.
