LANDSCAPE gardener Andrew Hargreaves, 41, of East End Park, is the new self-titled pearly cycling king of Leeds.

Andrew is pictured at Leeds Town Hall, where his 230 mile London to Leeds cycle ride, planned for May, will finish.

He says was inspired by the forthcoming Tour de France.

Andrew, who is seeking sponsorship for the trip, said: “I had the idea for the ride which will raise money for six-year-old Leeds schoolboy Joseph Lillywhite, who has cancer. The money will pay towards his treatment. I am an old friend of his dad Mark and just wanted to help.”

He bought the pearly king suit from a fancy dress shop which was closing down and he has donned a Yorkshire flat cap, representing Leeds and London with his outfit.

He will make the trip over three days, staying overnight in Camden, Kettering and Mansfield.
