It’s not a swanky London restaurant, but a Leeds bowling alley is one of the top spots for a ‘first date’ and now it is celebrating a little milestone of its own.
Roxy Lanes is three years old and is throwing a balls to the wall party with bowling, beer pong and booze.
Bosses at the bar on Bond Street are inviting customers old and new and their mates to join the celebrations next week.
There are free games on offer with prizes for the best – and worst – players.
It is also being used as a chance to showcase the new food and drinks menu which has seen classic cocktails replaced with some new mixes and the staple burgers and pizzas added to with new favourites like mac and cheese.
When Roxy Leisure launched the venture three years ago they weren’t sure what to expect from the city.
Ben Warren, operations manager, said: “We had seen other cities do it but we did not know what was going to happen. Fingers crossed people came – and they did.
“People put their phones down for the evening, play games, forget about messages and apps and just interact with each other.
“It is very popular with millennials, city workers, corporate team building and first dates. You can always tell when it is a first date, it is cute and if she wins - they leave happy.”
Future plans for Roxy Lanes will see the installation of 12 sports screens showing Sky Sports and BT Sports events, touch screens on the lanes and an online booking system.
“People don’t just go bowling as much so we are constantly developing. Beer pong is really popular so we have brought that in. We’re really looking forward to the party, seeing friends, having a few drinks and enjoying ourselves.”
It is Wednesday from 6pm.
