The 2015 Leeds Book Awards saw more than 800 children from 63 primary schools and 23 high schools pack into Pudsey Civic Hall to find out which books and authors would be named as the winners in three separate categories.

Young people had the chance to vote for their own particular favourite after reading, reviewing and discussing each shortlisted book.

Taking the honours in the nine to 11 category was Jane Elson with A Room Full of Chocolate. Kim Slater was named as the winner for Smart in the 11 to 14 category. Bali Rai’s Web of Darkness triumphed in the 14 to 16 category.

Children were then given the fantastic opportunity to meet their favourite writer and have their books signed.

Coun Debra Coupar, Leeds City Council’s executive member for communities, said: “It has been really fantastic to see the Leeds Book Awards capture the imagination of pupils from schools right across the city. “We would also like to offer a special thank you to every author in attendance,”

Reviews and information about all the shortlisted authors can be viewed at on www.leedsbookawards.co.uk.
