The 120-cover restaurant has taken over the building formerly occupied by Wagamama on Greek Street.

Owners Suresh Raje Urs and Srini Sundaram are both from India but met at college on the Isle of Wight and have two other restaurants in Manchester and Cheadle.

Suresh, 37, spent 10 years in hotel management before starting on his own and always wanted to come to Leeds.

He said: “When we first started with this we wanted to bring something unique to the table. We are always cautious in our approach but also optimistic.“Other places were doing Indian street food from very specific regions. What we did was try and give people a taste of street food from across the country. When we set the menu, it was a challenge because we could only have so many dishes on there.”

He grew up in Mysore, known for architecture and splendour, so was particularly pleased to secure the building. As you walk in you are greeted with incense and giant, hand-painted imported artworks.

He added: “Greek Street is enjoying a revival and we are happy to be part of that.”
