Thieves who broke into a Royal British Legion Club and swiped a Poppy Appeal collection tin have been condemned as “the lowest of the low”.
They helped themselves to over £600 in cash, whisky and collection tins raising money for Remembrance Day and Macmillan Cancer Support after breaking into the club during the early hours of November 3.
Ian Cooke, steward at the club in Castleford, said: “I have no words for whoever did this.
“They are the lowest of the low.
“I don’t think you can get much worse than stealing a poppy tin just days before Remembrance Sunday.”
Anyone with information should contact police on 101.
